Child Psychology/Psychiatry

Child Psychology and PsychiatryIn earlier times, children were seen as mini versions of adults. Later on through multiple researches, it was seen that children do not possess the same fundamentals as adults. They are more egocentric, sensitive, less logical but more intuitive than adults. Therefore, a separate branch of psychology, working with children is needed. We employ psychologists trained in working with children in our clinic to ensure that our services and the parents get the best possible perspective on children's mental health.

Child psychology and psychiatry work similarly to general mental health practice, with the difference lying in the extreme focus on child developmental levels, child-related psychological assessments, psychotherapy, childhood disorders, appropriate medication, child re-education services, and awareness-building workshops.

Family sessions, where caregivers and other members of the household, have a group session, to understand needs and help their child, with their present difficulties.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy practitioners play a significant role in aiding children to engage in meaningful activities that promote physical and mental health and improve their quality of life.

Occupational therapists' roles can vary depending on where they are employed. Some of the common tasks they perform are:

  • Assessing a patient's condition and requirements
  • Creating treatment plans to meet the patient's unique needs and assist them in achieving their goals
  • Reviewing a patient's home and/or work environment and suggesting changes to enhance their independence and accommodate their needs
  • Tracking and documenting progress for billing, evaluation, and reporting.

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is a valuable resource with a broad range of benefits and applications. This service entails an in-depth examination and treatment of communication issues, speech disorders, and retraining. Speech therapists have specialized training in the identification, analysis, assessment, and management of speech and language disorders.

Before beginning the treatment, the therapist conducts a thorough assessment to identify the root cause of the communication disorder. For instance, if the issue is unclear speech, we pinpoint the problematic areas to create a plan to move forward. Depending on the problem, we develop a plan that targets the weak areas while enhancing and strengthening existing skills.

What is Special Education?

Special education is designed to cater to children who have social, mental, or physical differences from the average to the point where they require modifications to standard educational practices. Some of the students who benefit from special education include those with cognitive, emotional, or behavioral impairments, as well as those with intellectual, hearing, vision, speech, or learning disabilities. Additionally, gifted students with advanced academic abilities and children with neurological or orthopedic impairments can also receive support through this program.

It is also referred to as special-needs education, aided education, good education, alternative provision, and exceptional student education. At Udgam we believe special education to be a crucial practice that aims to provide students with individualized learning experiences tailored to their specific differences, disabilities, and special requirements.
